Living In A Single Storey

With a block of land wide enough for your home as well as a backyard and lawn, a single storey structure is certainly a good recommendation. You may want one that’s two-storey but you will have to consider a lot of things before reaching a firm decision on that. It’s not just the land area that’s a factor. There are neighbourhood associations that require homeowners to have only single-level homes. Some neighbourhood associations hate the sight of a house that juts out from a row of domestic structures.

A single storey house is certainly less expensive to build than a two-storey one because it needs less construction materials. However, the cost is not of prime importance. There are still more important practical reasons why a house with just one floor is good. For one, kids may like the idea of a two-storey home but the stairs may prove too great a risk. You won’t have to check on them so often while you are busy in the kitchen or elsewhere as there is only one level with no stairs. Stairs have been found to be the site of accidents involving kids.

A home with just a single level is noticeably more airy than one with two floors. The reason for this is that such homes usually have higher ceilings since they don’t have any upper level. You’ll certainly cut costs on your electricity bills since you won’t have to use the air condition during very warm days. You also don’t need to install too many lamps or lights. As a consequence, your expenses for electricity will be cut because your wattage requirements are lowered significantly.

If your elderly parents are coming over to your place to spend time with you and their grandchildren for the weekend, a single storey home is certainly kinder to their bodies. Without a staircase to deal with, they’ll enjoy the freedom of being able to move around your home with less restraint. A home with just one level will benefit you. Without the stairs, you won’t have to lend your parents a hand every time they decide to go to their rooms to take a rest.

Perhaps the only time there is a disadvantage with a single storey home is when you have a party with a large number of guests. Because the house only has a ground floor, the bedrooms may not be very far from where people are celebrating. If you have kids or other people sleeping inside, they are likely to be disturbed at the noise inside the house. This is one issue that a double storey home does not have.

It’s clear that a single storey home is not perfect but it does have more advantages than disadvantages. After all, that kind of trouble only happens when you have parties, which isn’t on a weekly basis. Think of the lower electric bills you have to pay monthly. Consider the safety of your kids as they play around the house. Think of what your old parents will say if they see that your house doesn’t punish them with a staircase. Surely, you’ll end up deciding that a one-storey home is the best design to be built.
