Body Scanners Used In The Airports Could Be Illegal
Recently there was a new body scanners introduced in Manchester and Heathrow airports for even more security to check explosive device hidden into the body. And UK equality commission has said that this introduction might be illegal.
First of these scanner were revealed in Manchester airport in October 2009 and during this period many people were concerned about their naked body being seen by others inside the airport. Also other concerns are people working in the airport can illegally print these printed images out and do whatever they want to with it. Recently bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan landed in Heathrow and when asked about the body scanner he replied back as a joke: “It’s good for security but it is embarrassing for people who are not well endowed, also he felt that it is an infringement on privacy rights”. And already the first controversy of body scanner started which was about his image being printed at the airport by one of the security staff. These reports were denied by the airport on 10th of February 2010.
While SRK was going through the security post inside, outside in Heathrow parking lot there were thousands of fans gathered around to see their hero from India.
Many protestors gathered in Manchester airport parking protesting against the new body machines as they felt it infringe on privacy rights and contravene discriminations laws.
If it is proven illegal, it is designed for a good use and will definitely help from terrorism. Most airport parking’s do not have security such as in Birmingham airport parking, Luton, Stansted, Aberdeen, Edinburgh and other airport parkings. There should be security around parking areas as well as inside the airport. Creating machines to scan the cars entering the airports would be a great addition to security in the near future. It can be designed to work in the same way the current body scanner works, instead of scanning a human body this machine will be designed to scan the body parts of the car. This will keep both airport and airport parking safe from terrorism.
