Narrow Blocks Can Be Useful
The world is definitely not growing in number and size as the years pass by. Just as it continues to age with each passing year, the people inhabiting it also continue to multiply at astonishing rates. You don’t have to look over the statistics for proof since driving your way through heavy traffic will make you realise that it’s true. But you can’t be put off by the city’s population density as it still offers many advantages. If you want to live here, then you must learn to accept that reality of having a narrow block for your home.
The suburbs or even the more distant towns and villages are certainly an option, having no pollution and no noticeable population density to speak of. However, if your workplace is located in a city and you’re accustomed to the convenience it offers, you probably still prefer living in a city. You would be very unfortunate if the city is situated on a terrain with many hills and slopes because this will impact on the size of the narrow lots, making them even smaller.
If you change your mind and decide to take on the hassle of travelling longer distances to get to and from work then you will be sure to find many larger lots fit for an expansive home. You can still build a house on it and be assured that you will not be left living in a structure just bigger than a garden shack. However, that’s what you will need to accept if you don’t want to compromise the daily convenience of travelling to work with the possibility of a bigger home. If you can come to terms with the fact that you can’t build a mansion on such lots then you will alleviate yourself of unnecessary frustration.
It’s clear that the first thing you should do is to get over your grand designs for a huge house. ou can always have that at a later time at a different location. If you can do this, you’ll notice that your lot is not too narrow after all and you can begin to creatively think of ways to create a house of beauty on it. If you can accept it for what it is your mind will be clearer and that will enable you to think creatively about how to make your block wider.
At first sight, a narrow plot of land will leave you thinking that all you are going to get is a cramped house. After that, you will be able to think of many creative ideas to make your home look nice. In fact, the limitations of space may even be overcome. A narrow lot may not seem to provide you with enough space but it will provide you with many opportunities for improvement.
At first, the limitations provided by a narrow block may seem overwhelming to the point that it seems impossible to think of ways to make your home bigger and nicer. If you’re just building a home for you and your wife, perhaps a single storey home will actually do. Once your family grows, you can just transfer to a bigger place and sell your first home with a narrow block.
For a start, you may have to accept the fact that a double storey home on a narrow block is probably best if you have a big family. However, if you’re just settling as a married couple without plans of having kids in the near future, a single storey home may be fine. After all, you can sell the place once you think that it has become too small to accommodate you comfortably.
