Design Process Quotes

How much should I charge for my graphic design work?
I am a new design graduate trying to do some freelance work in order to gain extra cash. A client as requested a single side business card. Now including the idea generation process I anticipate this to take 2 days to create. One day of brainstorming and initial ideas and one of production. Does this sound about right? Bearing in mind I will work on it for 8 hours a day like normal working hours, so 16 hours in total. Does this sound about right? He has requested that I give him a quote for the cost of the initial design and then an hourly rate for any amendments there after. Given that I am a new graduate I will charge minimum wage for the amendments, but I am unsure about what to charge for the initial design?
2 days to brainstorm an idea and produce it, especially if i have to draw vector illustrations and logos, doesn’t seem to long to me. I guess I have a lot to learn.
There is no peerfect answer. But check what some others are charging. Strikes me that 16 hours may be hefty for this piece of work. 8 – 12 chargeable hours would seem more realistic. Hourly rate I would suggest £15 per hour for ammenments and given your inexperience £20 per hour for initial period. I would up or lower these figures depending on what you can find out about your competition charges. Don’t be too cheap as price says a lot about you. Too cheap and people may think cheap and nasty.
