I’m drafting a research proposal for the first time and do not understand the term “nature.” Help!

My research proposal pertains to adoption through the foster care system. I’ve looked through my research texts, but they only pertain to research design and methodology, not terminology. Can someone explain to me what “nature” means in terms to research? Thank you!

“Nature” is often used in educational and behavioral research to refer to what a child takes from genetics. “Nurture” refers to what traits they develop as a result of their environment. For example with regards to children in foster care, there are certain behaviors, habits, and personality traits that a child will develop as a result of who the biologoical parents are. This is the “Nature”. Behaviors, habits, etc. they develop as a result of their environment (i.e. foster parents, where they live, what school they go to, etc) are the “Nurture”.
