Design World Magazine

Is it illegal to use Media like photography from the World Wide Web?
Without the author’s and copyright holder’s permission? I am studying Photography and I found the perfect photo for my Assignment: Designing a Magazine cover page. I am not an expert in the legal side of things, but all I know is that if I’m going to use something that isn’t mine, it will only be for personal and educational purposes (to complete assignments and homework tasks)
I just got scrutinised for intending to use it for “educational purposes”.
@ Shortred: You must understand, I do not intend to claim the photography as my own. It is owned by “Fremantle Media Australia” a company whom I cannot seem to contact.
If it’s for an assignment, and you’re NOT making money off of it, just credit the photographer/company. You can’t get in trouble for just using it on an assignment. But if you turn it in for a contest or something, things’ll start to get hairy.
