If you had $5,000 to start a clothing company how would you use it?
How much would you dedicate to the graphic designer for the first 3-5 designs? Same for marketing/promotion, and merchandise? Is there anything else that I should consider?
A few things to consider:
I got the amount of $5,000 from a guy I went to high school with. He started his own clothing company (The Dirt Label) about 6 or 7 years ago. Actually his first company was Abstraction Fashion then he switched the brand to The Dirt Label about 2 years ago. As of now it’s just a local company here in Detroit, but it does pretty good. When he started he just dove in head first with no idea of what he was doing. So he ended up spending a lot more than $5,000 because of this. He said if it’s done right $5,000 will be enough to get off the ground and get money coming in. The problem is he’s out of the country right now and I need to know how that $5,000 should be divvied up ASAP.
Graphic Designer? for designs? for clothing? No. First things first, you need to come up with a business plan. You can get more funding if you have a viable product and plan. And you don’t want to go all willy nilly. If this is something you want to do, just do your research about ways to start small businesses. And talk to people, don’t just throw money out there.
