Innovative Colleges Creating New Ways To Learn

Throughout the country, colleges and universities have been adding to their course online listings tailored to contemporary careers and coming up with creative ways to save students time and money. If you’re looking to obtain a bachelors degree particularly, you’re likely to find an array of new offerings – some with opportunities to move more seamlessly, and less expensively, on to a masters degree. Among the new degree programs are:

Ashford University, Clinton, Iowa: A new bachelors degree in business leadership is being offered as a hybrid program, whereby students divide their time between campus and online studies. Online degrees in military studies, health marketing and communication and adult development have also been added at the bachelors level. New to a masters degree in education at Ashford University are two specializations: library and media, and reading literacy.

Bellevue University, Belleview, Neb.: A new bachelors degree in early childhood program management at Bellevue University is what’s known as an accelerated program. The online degree programs comes packaged for professionals in the field who, after attending community colleges, obtained associate degrees. Professionals who enroll in the program might include licensing agency staff members, administrators and childcare providers, according to what a Bellevue University announcement suggests.

Benedictine University, Lisle, Ill.: Bachelor’s degrees in graphic arts and design and criminal justice are new to Benedictine University. Beginning in fall 2010, students working toward the bachelors degree in graphic arts and design started a course to learning design approaches and problems – conceptual, technical and aesthetic included. Also beginning in fall 2010, students working toward the bachelors degree in criminal justice embarked upon a program where they might learn about conducting research, solving problems and thinking critically, according to a Benedictine University announcement.

Brandman University, Irvine, Calif.: Business administration – in the form of masters and bachelors degrees – are two of the newest programs offered by Brandman University. Both degree programs address contemporary issues such as sustainability, entrepreneurship and leadership in a global economy, an announcement from Brandman University noted. The institution planned to launch classes at its California and Washington State campuses in fall 2010.

Brown College in Mendota Heights, Minn.: Brown College hasn’t necessarily added a degree program. Through an agreement with Colorado Technical University, however, this four-year institution is making it easier and perhaps more affordable for graduates with a bachelors degree in criminal justice to obtain a masters degree. Brown graduates are able to save money on application fees and more when they earn a bachelors degree in criminal justice from the institution and move on to a Colorado Technical University master’s degree in management with a criminal justice concentration, which is an online degree program, a Brown College announcement noted.

Capella University: New to Capella are combined degree programs such as a combined bachelors degree in business with a health care management specialization and a master of health administration; a combined bachelors degree in public administration with a masters degree in public administration option; a combined bachelors degree and masters degree in public safety; a combined bachelors degree in public safety and masters degree in public administration; a combined bachelors degree in psychology with a masters degree in education; and a masters degree in public administration and masters degree in public safety joint program. Students working toward a masters degree in psychology at Capella University now also have the option of a family psychology concentration. Those who prefer professional certificate programs have choices that include new online certificates in play therapy and interdisciplinary forensics.

Students interested in the college degrees online offered by these or other colleges can apply for scholarships, which are offered by colleges and universities as well as large corporations, non-profit organizations, professional associations and more. Many private scholarships require that colleges and universities are accredited by nationally recognized agencies. Some scholarships also require that students first complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid. This application, available online, provides an idea of how much government assistance students might expect to receive.
