Why is it so hard to get a job?
I am getting my bachelor’s in graphic design, and I am so scared that I won’t have any job prospects when I graduate. I applied to 5 graphic design internships in DC & they all turned me down. I feel like I’ll never get a decent paying job with my degree….and I’m thinking of resorting to joining the army just to make money. I feel like it’s so competitive out there & it’s intimidating.
How are you approaching your job search? Newspapers? Internet? If so, pleas realize that hundreds–even thousands of people are looking at the same job postings. An internet job posting might have 80 applicants and may interview 5 of them.
That said, it is probably time to research other options of job searching. Cold calling is a method that’s been really successful for many people. Why not give it a try? Many companies have graphic design departments. I would search locally, or nearest to the next urban/suburban area you live.
