Graphic Design Essay comparing David Quay with Morris Fuller Benton?
Ok, I have been trying to find out info about these two and compare them with everything I’ve been asked to do, but I’m getting nowhere.
I am to discuss their similarities and/or differences from the point of view of historical styles, fashions, and influences prevalent at the time of their design. In selecting typefaces to research, consider fonts with obvious contrasts, such as:
type designs from different periods in history
typefaces designed as a result of different technology
a modern style based on, or influenced by, an early font
a display face and a body type design
a serif and a sans serif typeface
So if anyone can give me any information at all that would be great. Thank you
Morris Fuller Benton will, I suspect, always remain a more influential type designer than David Quay, but you could look at
News Gothic and Quay Sans
Garamond series and Helicon
Bodoni and Bordeaux
Souvenir and Titus
