RESNET Certification – Learning How To Succeed In Home Design

When it comes to the home design and building profession, there have been many changes recently. If you are involved in this profession, then you understand that all of the changes have to do with energy efficiency concerns. This can be attributed to more than just the homeowners. It’s safe to say that these concerns have been sweeping the whole industry. If you are unfamiliar with why this is happening, then you just need to use a little common sense. First, homeowners want to save money. This is obvious enough. What’s different is that they want to save money by saving energy. This is because the prices of all kinds of energy, from water to electricity to gas have been constantly increasing. This means that in order to reduce financial strain, homeowners need to work with professionals who understand how to conserve. This is why more in the profession should get RESNET certification.

If this is your first time hearing about RESNET certification it certainly won’t be your last. This is a name that employers are looking for on the resumes they receive. In design and building teams, those with this certification get higher pay and are asked to step into leadership positions. Professionals who are certified also get to work one on one with homeowners and make a difference and see it happen first hand. A certified rater can walk into a house and point out the design flaws and help an owner to save money and energy.

So how does one earn RESNET certification? Well, it’s not easy, but it can certainly be done. First, you should enroll in RESNET training. Anyone can enroll and it’s affordable and flexible. Training lasts for five days. The training is divided into two parts. There is classroom and fieldwork. In the classroom, the students are given readings and they learn about building science and building codes. They also learn how the HERS rating system works and they learn about the method behind the rating system. Once they get out onto the field, they learn how to physically analyze. They also learn a number of tests, such as the blower door test and window and insulation analysis.

Once the training is complete, you will need to take the RESNET certification exam. The exam is 50 questions. Here is a word to the wise. This test is extremely difficult if you haven’t been through the training and have done the proper amount of studying. The test covers the basics of building science and energy efficiency. It allows test takers to display a knowledge and understanding of the science and method behind the rating system.
