how to make t-shirts at home?
i was wondering how i could make my own t-shirt designs by using programs on my computer, and then printing them off on to special paper. but i dont want to use online sites..and nothing to expensive. i just want to be able to design my own stuff. im sick of seeing people with the same clothing as me. and i am very creative so i want to use it. please help me. =]
Home t-shirt transfers are a workable solution, yet they are far from ideal. When you iron on the transfer, the rectangular border of the transfer is easy to see, and therefore looks…can I say…cheesy?
So, if you happen to have a steady hand and a love for diy projects, I would recommend that you screen-print your very own shirt. It’s fun to do, allows you to work with your hands, and it’s COMPLETELY original (unless you make some just like it for your friends who will definitely want you to make them one if they see yours)!
All you need is:
- Mod Podge (craft glue that does not dissolve in water). You can get this at your local craft store.
- Some sheer fabric. Even nylons work if you stretch them tightly and evenly.
- An embroidery hoop. You can also get this at your local craft/fabric store.
- Paintbrush and some screenprinting ink. You can get this at an art supply store such as Michaels, Aaron Bros, or (even better…) Dick Blick or Utrecht.
- And of course…your fave blank t-shirt!

Good luck and happy t-shirt-making! I guarantee that this will be the most satisfying way to make your own creations.
Also, if you want to take a t-shirt that already exists (but isn’t that cute, or is just plain boring), try some t-shirt surgery. Just check out Generation T ( http://www.generation-t.com/ ), pull all your old t-shirts out of the closet, find a pair of scissors and start creating.
