Cadillac And Orange County Based Hyundai Named Top Picks For Safe Cars
With car accidents on the rise, consumers are insisting on cars that not only be stylish, fuel efficient and affordably priced but safe as well. Many makes and models are put through the ringer each year through IIHS crash tests but not all of them make the cut. Three cars which have more than made the cut are the Tucson and Sonata from Orange County based Kia and the CTS from Cadillac.
The first vehicle which made the cut is the 2011 Hyundai Tucson. Hyundai Motor is headquartered in the city of Irvine in Orange County, California. The ironic thing is that the Tucson actually received a “poor” rating in 2009 for roof durability and strength but Hyundai made improvements and earned the company top scores for the same test in 2011. The Tucson is an affordable compact SUV with excellent fuel economy and comfortable seating. The base model comes with a four cylinder 2.0 Liter engine with 176 hp while the GLS and Limited trims come with a 2.4 Liter engine with 176 hp. Standard features include an adjustable drivers eat, USB jacks and power locks. The sport utility vehicle is priced around the $18k price range.
Hyundai’s Sonata received a full five star rating in 2010 in tests performed by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Not only is the Sonata safe but it’s also within reach for most consumers with a base cost of around $18k. It’s available with both a V4 and V6 engine and offers a ride that is more on the smooth and comfortable side instead of the athletic and performance oriented side. The V6 is a solid choice if you need an additional boost of power. The interior is quite plush even though the Sonata is an affordable car. Seats are very comfortable and the back seats are particularly spacious. The gauges are backlit by blue ambient lighting resulting in a modern and contemporary feel. Hyundai Sonata Irvine has the 2010 model in stock.
The third car to make the cut is the CTS from Cadillac. In 2011 this vehicle was awarded the honor of being named “Top Safety Pick” from the IIHS. The CTs is an upscale midsize auto with edgy angular lines and a lot of power under the hood. The 3.0 Liter V6 outputs 270 hp and 22 lb feet of torque and the 3.6 Liter V6 puts out 304 hp. The cabin is refined, spacious and very well designed. Wooden accents throughout the cabin add to the CTS’ distinguished looks. When it comes to safety features, front side airbags and full length side curtain bags come standard plus Automatic Crash Response is also in place. The CTS is priced at the $34k price range. CTS Cadillac Costa Mesa offers excellent deals on the CTS.
If you are looking for a vehicle that not only offers value but also scored high on crash tests any of the vehicles above would be a good choice. The Sonata and Tucson are both practical and affordable while the CTS offers a dash more style and originality although at a higher price. No matter which car you decide to buy, it’s highly recommended that you always check the vehicle’s safety and IIHS test results.
