Interior design question – painting my attic bedroom?
my bedroom is in the attic, is measures 20′ x 12′. Its rather spacious, but what makes it difficult is the fact that is has a sloped ceiling on one side, and the a single window at each end. The sloped ceiling can make it feel smaller, and the lack of windows doesn’t allow much light. I very much need to paint (its white right now) and want to do a contrasting wall in a deep red color. The contrasting wall would be the wall opposite the slanted ceiling (the one where my head board would be). The rest of the walls, to keep things bright, I was thinking of doing in a bright orange-gold color. Now here is where things get complicated. To visually lift the sloped ceiling, I am thinking of painting the two foot high straight wall below it with verticle stripes alternating the same orangy-gold with a one that is one shade lighter. My question is, should I continue the lighter or the darker of the golds throughout the rest of the room, should the ceiling be the darker or the lighter?
If you don’t have much light in the attic , it all depends on the mood that you are trying to create , personally I really think that you should go one colour all the way this will wrap the room , you could paint the whole room in the light orange / gold and add red pillows or bedding , get some black and white pictures and frame them in red , if privacy is not an issue because of the height you could either have a white sheer panel or make a valance of the contrasting colours, red and yellow , and a black lamp to give it punch!
