Interior Design Related Careers

Okay….. questions about majors??????
I think I would like to eventually become an interior designer, but, am unsure. I want to go to a college/ university and get a degree. I know there is an interior design major….. but, my questions are :
1. I’ve heard people relate to interior design as a “weak major” what is your opinion?
2. Because i’m not sure at this point if that’s definitley what I would like to do with my life, wouldn’t it make more sence to choice a more general major where there are a few careers i could go into? (idk, maybe art? something to that effect…..???????)
3. What courses should i take in high school/ college to prepare myself for such a career.
4. Does anyone know of a college/ university that has that major, or a similar one that would lead me to become an interior designer, that is a really good school
Thanks for your time and effort in considering/ answering my questions!
Where are you?
Many state colleges have design majors. Weak is in the eye of the beholder- designer can make a very good living. Is that weak?
You could focus on art or architecture if you would want another path. You need to know how to draft plans and draw.
You have to make sure you know math, art history, how to write (clients want their proposals in writing), and art. Using a computer is now w necessity.
Lots of schools out there- Univ of Nebraska has a solid design section and is not a competitive as some of the STRAIGHT design schools- if you decided against design your courses could transfer.
