Most offices look just like the next one nice and shiny but without much character. However there are some major companies that are looking to change this corporate image and make the workplace more engaging. This is better for business because they keep their employees happy and in a relaxed state of mind. In a world where the use of knowledge workers is now the driving factor determining the success of a business it is all the more important to keep your employees happy. Naturally this customisation isn’t for everyone who want an office to rent but still gives you a good idea of what other people are doing in this space.
Pixar is one of those companies known for its creative ideas which is also applying this mentality to its office environments. Pixar have created lots of little huts and additional rooms for their employees to work in. Using mood lighting and strings of lights that mimic what you would use outside Pixar have been able to create a space where your imagination can run wild.
Red Bull have created some great offices at their headquarters in London. Looking very slick the offices feature lighting that covers the entire ceiling and a slide for people to more easily move between levels.
The Ministry of Economic and Business Affairs in Denmark has also decided to get creative with their offices. The main concept they have put in place at their Copenhagen offices is an egg shaped room used for meetings. The room which is covered internally with a whiteboard style material is a great place for groups of people to work together on an idea. This is a great space for people to work together and brainstorm new ideas.
Google were perhaps the first company to introduce the idea of specially designed offices to engage their employees. Called the Googleplex Google’s offices set the standard for employee care and one thing that is especially positive for the employees is free food available all day.
