Easy Design

Help with Kitchen remodel and design?

I wanted to remodel my ugly and ill designed kitchen. Where are some good places, websites perhaps, that I can get help on a kitchen redesign? I dont what to hire an architect at this point.
I have stairs that come into it and 3 additional doors that enter the kitchen and its small (8.5′x11.75′) so everything seems very out of place.
I understand about cabinets, counter tops, tiles, etc… I just really lack on the architecture and design area.

First !!! Architects DO NOT design kitchens. Just like Electricians do not do floors. Architects design buildings. I do know some think they can do otherwise but they can not. You want a Kitchen Designer to design your kitchen First thing is DO NOT DO NOT go to the big box stores. They charge full list price for cabinets. You would not pay full list price-MSRP-sticker price for your new car so dont pay it for cabinets.

Also those big box stores do not employ Certified Kitchen Designers. Instead they take floor clerks and give them 3 days training to use the design software. They are taught to design for profit, not for function and beauty. You the customer will be cheated because you will never be told about any modern design possibilities because they dont know about them.

Go to your local kitchen showrooms instead. They employ Certified Kitchen Designers who are experts with very expensive education and years of experience to earn the CKD. Dont let that scare you. Most kitchen showrooms offer free basic design service. They make their money on selling cabinets. But most all discount off list price. Ask or look at their web site. If they do not discount from list price then go to the next one. Nearly all discount.

Forget about all those online sites that allow the homeowner to place random generic cabinets in place where they dont belong. Google kitchen showrooms in your home town. Go to their web sites and look at brands then research that brand. I could tell you about each one but it would take a week. When you find a store you like then go in person. They will visit your home, take measurments and listen to what you like and dont like. They will explain why you can or cant do somthing and why. They will hold your hand through the entire process. A Kitchen Designer does not just ell you cabinets and disapear. They see the job all the way though delivery to tradesmen each doing their things to the final cleanup and picture taking.

You DO NOT DO NOT want to buy that cheap Chinese formaldehyde and sulfur infested garbage out there unless you want your family to develop serious health problems like asthma or even cancer. You will know it’s Chinese when the ad says “all wood cherry kitchen for $995.00″ You would be buying a death wish. Sitck with American made brands.

Another important thing to look for is open up the door. If you do not see a KCMA label then DO NOT buy that cabinet. Nearly all American and Canadian brands are KCMA certified. If it’s not then they will have a very short life span. Also do not get suckered into that IKEA crap. I wont go into that again.
