1968 Chevy Camaro
The 1968 Chevrolet Camaro is part of the first generation of pony cars created to provide competition to the Ford Mustang. The car is based on GM platform "F" body as a rear-wheel drive vehicle. The aim was to provide multiple body styles and drivetrain for the vehicle to appeal to a wide variety of customers. Compared to the '67 Camaro, the 68 model has been improved a little and saw the addition of multiple features. Some major improvements and revisions were performed on the suspension system, taking care of a few management problems of the original.
Trim packages offered include the RS, SS and Z28, and with either a coupe or convertible body. The RS models have been designed primarily with aesthetics in mind and came with different taillights, headlights embedded as they hide during the day rock, exterior trim and a special set of RS emblems that the vehicle even more unique. All SS models come equipped with a 350 cubic inches, 5.7-liter V8 engine, or as an updated 6.5-liter V8 engine L35 big block (396 cubic inches). Additional features SS models includes air intakes mounted on the hood, the only SS emblems and striping, along with enhanced grids. It is important to note that Consumers can order a Camaro with both the RS and SS trim levels and it is a RS / SS. Also manufactured Indianapolis 500 was a derivative of the package SS.
Z28 models were designed as "ready to race" package, offering optimum performance. One of these models were the application of power disc brakes front and a special 4-speed manual transmission. The standard engine is a 4.9 liter small-block V8 with an intake manifold aluminum with a 3-inch shaft with 4 inch in diameter, along with a Holley 4 barrel carburetor secondary. The purpose of these smaller engine special models meet specifications Trans Am series. Z28 model engines were capable of up to 290 hp at 5.300 rpm. The 1968 Chevy Camaro also saw the addition of the new "Astro Ventilation" system that allowed the entry of fresh air.
