What computer design software can I use?

I’m currently using Gimp, but I doesn’t do what I need it to do. Can somebody tell me some programs to use. I’d like a program that I can use to design t-shirts and create characters, logos, patterns and other designs. Also if it can be downloaded for free and some I can use for a Mac and/or PC, but mostly PC.
