Paying Children For Grades Like Good Little Capitalists
It’s going to come up. Parents are going to have to determine whether to pay their children for good grades. Some consider it a bit of incentive, while nevertheless more think it cheapens the concept of academic accomplishment. The ‘School is your job’ idea
Several parents who support the idea that paying for grades is productive argue that school is a child’s vocation. To be able to prepare for education that life becomes, a kid has to learn as much as possible. An employer pays employee compensation. A student should be paid also. The opposite side to this argument, however, is that not all jobs in life net monetary rewards and that, children should strive for good grades simply for personal growth. While Urban League President Darwin Davis praised such efforts for mirroring the reward systems of United States capitalist society, Manhattan Institute fellow Sol Stern called it “an insult to every hard-working parent.”
Do not do free labor
Compensating children for their work educates kids how to work well. Moms and dads can do this to help their kids. There is a lesson to learn. Don’t work for free if you can do it well. - The importance of hard work. In addition to earning money for good grades, if children need more money, they should discover part-time employment. Younger children might simply do yard work to earn a little bit if they are younger and don’t get an allowance. For teenagers who are old enough, it could mean a paper route or other part-time job. Some children will understand money better after working for it. They will know what it takes to get a dollar.
- Charity. By donating time or money, children can learn about doing well. Children will learn how to appreciate money and education when they learn to be selfless.
