fashion design clothes online
i want to start my own business in fashion designing.?

i have a very strong passion for fashion and designing clothes. i want to start my own business in this line. i want 2 things at one time – i mean i want to sell my self-designed clothes as well as ready-made clothes. i’v heard something like online selling or online business – not sure which one is the right word, what is it, can this be helpful to me in any way? i’m working full time as a teacher in an institute, would it be right step to leave my current job and concentrate only on fashion designig line?

Don’t leave your job – yet.

But gather all your free time, besides teaching, and CREATE some samples. Samples of fashionable apparel, that you think, will look cool. We all know that no business is good business wihout a product.

And in your case, you need a product too. I am not sure what kind of clothes we are talking here. But I will assume it’s women’s apparel.

Ok, what we want here is to see if people will like your products, and if they don’t, how do we go about changing the style to suit the trend. And you need lots of research on current trends, unless you are sure that you can set the trends.

Start a website, take pictures of “models” (could be your own friends or yourself) wearing your outfits, put those pictures on the website and just PROMOTE the site. When you get all the feedback that you wanted, go ahead, hire an online store designer and start selling online. Yahoo offers good small business e-commerce solutions.

Remember, online selling is just one of the ways to reach a bigger market and it should be attempted as a next-step, if you dont know anything about e-commerce yet. The current market for online retailers (those who sell a variety of brands) is saturated.

Start off by marketing your samples to nearby retailers, where you can actually see your customers. Based on the demand for your designs, you can start an online store later which will sell YOUR clothes as well as other brands.

Once you get all these going according to your liking, you can then think of quiting your job and going full time into business. I would not quit until, lets say, I am getting bulk orders for my outfits. It can be achieved while having a job such as teaching.

I am a web/graphic/multimedia designer, and I do have a current online store( www.cafepress.com/saffronpunch) in which I sell my designs (that’s besides my job).

I am also working on a unique street-wear label, that I plan to launch sometime middle of this year.

If you are not my direct competitor (haha, just kidding), I will gladly help you through the process. Am always willing to give out free info to the budding entrepreneur.

Cheers

Rex
