Embarking on an Overseas Holiday? Read these Hints

By planning well, your overseas vacation will be enjoyable and trouble-free. In this post we discuss some hints for people traveling overseas. Of course this is not a complete list, but these tips will hopefully help you in avoiding common issues while traveling abroad.

When at the Airport …

Due to security measures that are common in airports, ensure you double-check flight times and arrive with plenty of time before your flight leaves.

Tips for When On an Aircraft …

Attempt to choose travel times at nighttime to avoid jetlag.

Though alcohol can assist you to get to sleep faster, drinking a lot of alcohol can cause dehydration. Decline the free alcohol and drink water.

When you reserve your flight don’t forget to inform your airline of any food preferences (for instance if don’t eat meat).

Suggestions for Customs …

As well as your travel documents, ensure you write down the address you will be staying at in the country you are visiting. Providing this information to the customs authorities is mandatory in some countries.

Overseas Travel Packing …

Ensure that you can clearly indentify your bag. Many items of luggage look the same and a multitude of bags may be waiting after your flight. One quick suggestion is to tie a ribbon to the handle so you can quickly identify your bag.

If you are changing aircraft at any point in your trip it is great idea to ensure you have a change of clothes in your carry-on luggage. It is not uncommon for flights to be delayed due to bad weather or other issues. If you are delayed another set of clothes will be welcome!

Check out the expected weather in the destination you are visiting. This will help you pack clothes suitable for the conditions you are traveling to and avoid overpacking unneeded items.

Ensure you do not carry all your valuables in one bag. If that item gets stolen or is lost you will be inconvenienced. Split up your cash, credit cards, bank cards and traveler’s cheques between your purse, and different pockets and bags.

Hints for Hotels and Rental Cars …

It might seem obvious but don’t leave booking hotels and car rental to the last moment. In popular travel destinations or places that host conferences and sporting events there may be weeks when it is extremely difficult to book a hotel room or rental car.

In addition to records of any hotel and rental car reservations, to ensure you are charged correctly, keep records of the amount quoted to you when you booked.
